Hey Everybody, I hope you can come to the club meeting this Thursday 9-218 at Ice Harbor Brewery. Tasting will begin at 7 PM in the brew house with the formal meeting kicking off at 7:30.

We had a ton of fun at the Spring Megabrew, and for anyone who got wort and wants to know the starting gravity of the Blonde wort you have been fermenting is 1.053. For those that did not get any of the wort come by the Untapped Blues & Brews festival May 10th to give it a try at the MCZA/Ice Harbor booth.

The recipe for 5 gallons of our Megabrew blonde is below
Est Starting Gravity: 1.052
Est IBU: 25
Mash Temp: 153
Boil: 90 Min
9.5 lbs US 2-row
5 oz Crystal 15L
3 oz Honey Malt
2 oz Carapils
.25 oz Millennium Hops (14% AA) 60 minutes
.75 oz Mosaic Hops (12% AA) 15 minutes
For my extract brewing buddies substitute 6 lbs of light liquid malt extract and 1 lbs of light dry malt extract for the 9.5 lbs of US 2-row and steep the remaining 3 grains.
Our next monthly homebrewer’s meeting will take place on the Ides of March (or Thursday, March 15) at Ice Harbor Brewing. Per usual, tasting will begin at 7pm, with business getting underway around 7:30pm. Topics that will be discussed include:
- Club quarterly style (Witbier).
- Spring Megabrew, to be held on Saturday, March 31. Come to learn more about the brew, sign up for your spot in line, etc.
- UnTapped Blues and Brews, coming up on May 11-12.
There is also an alternate event taking place in Yakima on the same night as the meeting. From James Golovich:
“The Yakima Homebrew club has invited us to join them on a tour of Yakima Chief (hop processing company) on 3/15 at 6pm. Yes this is the same night as our club meeting. The plan is to go to Yakima Chief for the tour and then finish off over at the Snipes Brewery. We are allowed to bring homebrew to Snipes.
“Meet at Yakima Chief, 555 West South Hill Road Sunnyside, WA 98944 at 6pm, or if you would like to Car-Pool from Tri-Cities plan on meeting somewhere at 5pm. If you would like to car pool contact James Golovich <email@example.com> so we can set something up.”

If you are planning on attending this year’s National Homebrewer’s Conference in Seattle (Bellevue) this year, you better grab your tickets now! The conference runs from June 21-23. Registration is open and tickets are selling out fast (they were 75% sold out as of this morning!), so if you are planning on going you should purchase your tickets soon. The hotel is the Hyatt Regency Bellevue on Seattle’s Eastside. The discounted rate is $139/night.
